On Sept. 18, the AAPA will meet with Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services over lunch at the Procope. McCreevy will talk to us about his ongoing crusade to dismantle barriers to trade in goods and services within the EU by getting governments to slash red tape and intensify competition. Among McCreevy's favorite topics are ongoing efforts to integrate Europe's capital markets and bolstering intellectual property rights. |

Jean-François Théodore, the deputy CEO of NYSE Euronext, was the guest of the Association for a breakfast meeting at Le Procope on June 14. When asked about the industrial rationale behind the merger between the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext, Mr. Théodore cited the $250 million in IT savings that the merger is expected to generate, adding that “the economies of scale are simply Karl Marx theory applied to IT savings.” |
